VPN Acceptable Use Policy
Purpose
The purpose of this policy is to provide guidelines for Remote Access Virtual Private Network (VPN) connections to the Kansas City Art Institute network.
Definition
A Virtual Private Network (VPN) is a secured private network connection built on top of a public network, such as the internet.
Scope
This policy applies to all KCAI Faculty and Staff utilizing a VPN to access the KCAI network. This policy applies to implementations of VPNs that allow direct access to the KCAI network.
Policy
Approved KCAI faculty and staff may utilize the benefits of a VPN, which is a “user-managed” service. This means that the user is responsible for selecting an Internet Service Provider (ISP), coordinating installation, and installing the required software.
It is the responsibility of the employee with VPN privilege to ensure that unauthorized users are not allowed access to the KCAI network
VPN access is controlled using dual-factor authentication. Users will log in with their username and password and the one-time key sent via text, email, or phone call.
All traffic destined for KCAI networks is logged and associated with the user, as permitted by KCAI Administrative Regulations, section II, G. (Computer Use Regulation.)
